Not so Humble Giveaway: Science Cookie Cutter

The science cookies have been such a hit I thought I would do science cookie related blog giveaway.

I have several unused science theme cookie cutters that need to see some baking action. So I've decided to give one of my cutters away to a lucky reader. Besides, I really need to make some room for all the new ones I seem to acquire almost every weekend.

For this week's giveaway I've chosen a brand new lab mouse and a Drosophila cookie cutter (which will be making an appearance on the blog later this week).

So, if you are interested in owning one of these fine examples of baking gone nerdy, just post a comment below indicating which one you prefer. That is all you have to do to be considered. I'll allow people to comment and enter for the next 7 days and then I will announce the winner on my blog next Saturday, the 19th.

  1. Ooh! I'm so thrilled to have a chance at the mousey cookie cutter! I've never made royal icing, but I'd learn how if it meant baking adorable mouse cookies for my geeky friends and family. I'd be snarky and add ears to the backs of some of them, and make others in fluorescent green. Anyway, thanks for hosting this giveaway, and have a great week!

  2. Hi I just "Stumbleupon'ed" your blog today. Your science themed cookies are fabulous; I can't wait to see the Drosophilas! It would be awesome to make some Hymenopteras as well - beautiful green Sweat bees or something like that. :)

Thank you so much for your creations!

  4. Anyone who has the desire to bake nerdy cookies is welcome to participate.

    ReplyDelete
  5. Ooo! Tough choice! I think I'd choose the lab mouse cutter though! :-)

    ReplyDelete
  6. How tiny is the Drisophila cookie cutter? You'd have to cut & bake hundreds to satisfy even the tiniest child, and then icing them...! I like the Mouse best.

    ReplyDelete
  7. If I'm lucky enough to get picked, I'd like the Drosophila cookie cutter!

    ReplyDelete
  8. Ah, so many memories of sexing fruit flies under a microscope in high school. I choose drosophila!

    ReplyDelete
  9. I'm definitely a fan of the mouse- I'm into infectious disease research, and mice/rats tend to make much better model organisms than Drosophila melanogastor for our purposes.

Well, was into. Then I graduated.

    Thanks for the chance! corvus.melloriATgmailDOTcom

  10. I love the drosophila! Where did you get your scientific-themed cookie cutters?

    ReplyDelete
  11. I'm a fan of the mouse. I maintain a couple of knock out mouse colonies at work which is boring, and I occasionally get to MRI some mouse hearts, which is not boring.

    ReplyDelete
  12. In my pre baby life I was the mouse colony manager at an immunology lab. I would love to be able to bring a batch of NOD mouse cookies next time I stop by to say hi.

    ReplyDelete
  13. This is my new favorite blog! I love the nerdy science cookies, and am planning to try my hand at a batch of petri dish cookies this weekend!

I am a biology researcher, and although I do my research on mouse organs, I'm really more excited about drosophila cookies!

    ReplyDelete
  14. Oooh this is SO exciting! My professors and I ogle your cookies all the time because they're not only accurate, but absolutely adorable! I would love the chance to make mouse cookies for myself and my lab mentors - we work with a lot of different knockout breeds and it would be fun to bring in little models of our, well...models!

    ReplyDelete
  15. Ooh, they are both super cute but I would love the drisophila cutter! Great giveaway. :)

    ReplyDelete
  16. I definitely feel the need to enter myself in a chance for that lovely little lab mouse. :)

    ReplyDelete
  17. i looooooove your blog...mostly because i fancy myself a bit of a nerd and you seem to fit into my life juuuuust perfectly! ^.^ i think the mouse cutter is so darn cute! *ahem* and i really hope to win it.

    ReplyDelete
  18. I'd love to have a chance at the lab mouse cookie cutter!

    ReplyDelete
  19. I LOVE your blog...and I would LOVE LOVE LOVE a chance at the drisophila cookie cutter!

    ReplyDelete
  20. I just started reading yoru blog..I think it was linked from a boingboing article? Anyway, I'm looking forward to more baking and I'd love the cookie cutter for the mouse. :)

    ReplyDelete
  21. I love the science-themed cookies! Your blog has inspired me to try frosting some cookies this break. And yes, the mouse one is my favorite! For those of us that don't win at the end, how about a link to a place to buy them?

    ReplyDelete
  22. Oh, my students would LOVE to bite into these cookies! We're not supposed to have parties in our classrooms, but this would be "science"-related, so it would have to be OK, wouldn't it? ; ) I like the mouse the best!

    ReplyDelete
  23. I too have recently stumbled upon your blog... after perusing your posts I've decided that I wish I was lucky enough to be your friend and eat your amazingly delicious and sometimes fabulously nerdy food! Alas, I will just have to indulge by reading your blog, though winning a mouse cookie cutter to make my own scrumptious lab mice would be awesome as well.

    ReplyDelete
  24. Ducky,

I haven't seen this particular cookie cutter online. However, while trying to hunt it down I did find two other mouse cookie cutters here and here.

Though, one of them looks a bit more like a gerbil to me.

    ReplyDelete
  25. Mouse please! I'd love to make these for my lab mates.

    ReplyDelete
  26. I would love to make some mice cookies! I miss have pet rodents, so this will have to suffice, haha.

    ReplyDelete
  27. Mouse.. Although they are both fantastic- your petri dish cookies are amazing. Love your blog!

    ReplyDelete
  28. The wasp cookie cutter - I used to catch those, but I'd rather eat them!

    ReplyDelete
  29. OMG it's FATE!!! We scooched the ottoman over today and a lil ole mousey scurried out and away to some other safe place in the house. It's our first Mousey. I shall bake him cookies in his honor if I were to be lucky enough to win the cooky cutter. My fingers and toes will be crossed all night long in anticipation!!!!! Good luck to all!

    ReplyDelete
  30. Nice give away! Thanks!

This is a tough call for me. I worked with mice for my dissertation, but now I'm a high school teacher and headed into the genetics unit. I think it would be great fun to teach my students to use Punnett Squares with cookies! So, I'll have to say the Drosophila one for me. :D

    ReplyDelete
  31. I get my science cutters online and at local baking stores.

I found the drosophila cutter today, literally digging though boxes of back stock at my local mom and pop baking supply store. I was looking for a manduca-like cutter today, either in moth or grub form. I didn't find any but I did find a handful of these Drosophila. Lucky me!

    ReplyDelete
  32. I would love a lab mouse cookie cutter. So fargin' cute:)

    ReplyDelete
  33. I've been lurking without commenting ever since PZ linked you on Pharyngula, but I just have to pipe up now! I adore your sciency baking - it's just too perfect - as well as the rest of your cooking. I would love love LOVE to have a Drosophila cookie cutter to recreate my dastardly high school genetics experiments.

    ReplyDelete
  34. Ooh, I want those mice!! Truth be told, though, I'll probably elongate the nose and turn them into rats, my favorite model system.

    ReplyDelete
  35. What a cool idea, I'd want bacteria shaped cutters myself, lol. Too bad I can't seem to find any online.

    ReplyDelete
  36. Hi there! i just discovered your blog, one of my science-y friends fwd me the pietri dish cookies and I just love them!!! plan on making them soon,
And I would love to be entered in your giveaway
    Thanks!

    ReplyDelete
  37. I would very much like to have the mouse cookie cutter. I've never seen any cookie cutters like this and am very excited. My favourite sugar cookie recipe is from Good Eats, The Christmas Cookie episode. Thanks!

(btw, I LOVE the atomic cookies)

    ReplyDelete
  38. I think the mouse is just fantastic, he's definitely my pick :)

    ReplyDelete
  39. How LOVELY! I like the mouse. He's begging to be "tested!" :D

    ReplyDelete
  40. Ha, these are fantastic! We need to find little erlenmeyer flasks to match! I love them both -- especially the mouse :) so much fun to be had... And this gave me a great idea -- thanks so much for the blogging! Happy holidays! :)

    ReplyDelete
  41. Hi Mrs. Humble,

Firstly, would you mind if I borrowed your idea of the periodic table cookie? It's very clever. (I'm a member of the chemistry club at my university, and I bet my colleagues would get a kick out of it.)

I think the mouse would be utilized very often in my household. As others have mentioned, much fun can be had...

    Happy almost-Winter!
    ~Devin

    ReplyDelete
  42. Devin,

Absolutely. Have fun making them. Just make a double batch of dough, so you don't run out at meitnerium like I did.

    ReplyDelete
  43. This is so great! Given free time and left to my own devices, I'll inevitably bake something... And then get the mountains of goodies out of my apartment by bringing them to my class or my lab - it would be so great to bring in sciencey things! I'm going to try your icing tips when my class gets together to bake and decorate sugar cookies!
I'd love the mouse, but the fly's cute too :o)

    ReplyDelete
  44. I would like a mouse cookie cutter. Even though I'm really far down this list it seems. I found your blog through boingboing and you're the first cooking blog or any type of recipe place I've ever really read because your recipes are so magical and have made me want to cook - which is the first time that's happened to me. I can't wait to make lab mouse cookies because my boyfriend is doing his ph.d. in molecular biology and has all these meetings and events where he has to bring food and it would be great because he actually does most of his experiments using lab mice. He would die if he saw these cookies basically.

    ReplyDelete
  45. I think I'd prefer the mouse cookie cutter. But I have to say, my favorite science cookies that you've done so far have been the gel electrophoresis cookies! I'm a senior pre-med undergraduate and the gel cookies look like much more delicious (and less carcinogenic!) than the actual gels were in bio lab. :)

    ReplyDelete
  46. I would love to win the mouse cookie cutter-- my boyfriend is a lab scientist working with mice so it would be perfect!

    ReplyDelete
  47. I'd like to win the mouse one since it is so cute, but maybe the fruit fly would be better since no one seems to want it. :P

    ReplyDelete
  48. One of my friends linked to your blog and I was blown away by how amazing all your culinary creations are. I would love the chance to win the mouse cookie cutter. Looking forward to seeing the drosophila cookies!

    ReplyDelete
  49. I can't wait to see the Drosophila cookies! I spent way too much time around them teaching intro biology lab, and now they are frequent residents in my apartment during the summer months. I'm excited to be able to make an edible version!

    ReplyDelete
  50. Your cookies and candies are amazing. I've been reading your blog and salivating since I found it last week, and just wish I had more time to experiment in the kitchen! Even my husband (and fellow engineer) who typically is not a fan of sweets loves to see your creations.

The mouse is adorable! I can't wait to see what you've done with the other one, but I love the mouse!

    ReplyDelete
  51. I would LOVE a mouse cookie cutter! I could make such awesome cookies for my committee meetings :) The other science cookies on this site are amazing and are inspiring to me as a microbiologist and an avid baker :)

    ReplyDelete
  52. I'd love to win the mouse cutter! Found your blog by chance the other day, and I'm in love with it--especially the science cookies :)

    ReplyDelete
  53. O HAI!!! I would love love love the Drosophila cookie cutter!!!

Last night I made my husband t-streaked Petri dish cookies to take to his final microbiology lab tomorrow night. I was so pleased how they turned out! It was my first time working with royal icing and flooding and I think I'm in love!

Thank you for the inspiration! ♥

    ReplyDelete
  54. I like them both, but the lab mouse is my favorite.

    ReplyDelete
  55. This comment has been removed by the author.

    ReplyDelete
  56. I'd love the mouse. I did my research work in rats primarily, but I love a good lab mouse just as much.
Think I'm gonna have to go hunting for my own geeky cutters this afternoon.

    ReplyDelete
  57. Either both are great models to work with ;] I would have to go with the mouse because I work with them everyday! Thanks for such a great blog you made my whole labs day

    -Brittany

    ReplyDelete
  58. I'd want the mouse. Everyone at work would get a kick out of mouse cookies

    ReplyDelete
  59. I would love the mouse cookie cutter! But I have to admit, I wouldn't be making "lab" mice. I want it to make mouse cookies for Grand parties at cat shows. (Grand parties are where you give cake and treats to friends and show goers in celebration of your cat achieving the Grand Champion title.) I hooked my daughter (an MD) up with your gel electrophoresis cookies to make for her co-workers at their clinic open house. Toooo cute and funny!

    ReplyDelete
  60. I would love to have the mouse cookie cutter. My husband is a grad student, working on his pHD in Biochemistry. At his work I am known as Geoff's wife who bakes cookies! I love to bake mouse cookies for his lab. Having this cookie cutter would make me the coolest scientist's wife ever!!! Thanks for the opportunity! Very cool blog!

    ReplyDelete
  61. Wow, I love that periodic table. How cool!! That must have taken you some time! As a medical student-by-day, secret baking enthusiast-by-night, I would love to have the chance to use your Drosophila cutter to hopefully make those long study nights more bearable! Thanks for making PCR more fun!

    ReplyDelete
  62. I absolutely adore the mouse cookie cutter! I happened to see your blog for the first time last week when another reader posted your gel electrophoresis cookies on twitter. I work in a neuroscience lab and one of the things we look at is loss of righting reflex in rats. When I showed my boyfriend the picture of your mouse cookies, he said, "Oh my god!!! It's playing dead like your rats! You HAVE to make me some of those!" He was so excited he said he'd weld a mouse cookie cutter if we couldn't find one. You've posted some of the cutest cookie ideas and I can't wait for a day off to try some of them myself!

    ReplyDelete
  63. Lab mouse here! As 2 geeky science nerdy people, my husband and I have really enjoyed your website. I've made your fudge and marshmallow recipes so far - delish! Going to work on the period table of elements today. Had a friend, fellow scientist at Johns Hopkins, request bacteria cookies. Those should be fun to create as well!

And kudos for your beautiful photos! The really are lovely :)

    ReplyDelete
  64. Well, I don't work with either mice or Drosophila, so there's no obvious choice, but I would love the mouse cookie cutter!

    ReplyDelete
  65. I love the droso cutter! Can I have it, please?

    ReplyDelete
  66. My daughter and I love the mouse and have been wondering where to find a mouse cookie cutter.

    ReplyDelete
  67. Love your blog! Deciding which cookies to make for my students - petri dish (for biology class) or atom for my physics class - maybe both!

Would love to have one of your cookie cutters. Looks like everyone is going for the mouse (which I could turn into a mole for chemistry), but I also love the fly.

btw, I found out about your blog from a fellow educator on the National Science Teachers listserv.

    ReplyDelete
  68. I would love to be able to win a cookie cutter. Like you, I am a science nut and a baking mamma. My daughters and I are going to bake the periodical table cookies and give them to their high school chemistry teacher. Please, blind me with science!

    ReplyDelete
  69. Mouse! I have many fond memories of the cocaine-analog experiment from my neuro lab class.

    ReplyDelete
  70. Those cookie cutters are fantastic! They are the best I've every seen! I am a high school biology teacher and my wife is in medical school - we both got a kick out of these. We think the mouse would go well with our anatomically correct human heart jell-o mold in terms of nerdy-science cookware.
    We really enjoy your blog!

    ReplyDelete
  71. Hi! I would love to win a mouse cookie cutter :) I like to bake for my lab that studies circadian rhythms with mice as the model animals

    ReplyDelete
  72. Oooh! If I'm selected I'd love to win a mouse cookie cutter <:3 )~

I'd like to bake some and serve it for my upcoming defense :-D

    ReplyDelete
  73. Drosophila cookie cutter all the way b/c you never see such a thing!

I think there's gotta be a whole line of these: Model organisms cookie cutters. Now you just need yeast (one with a little bud!), C. elegans, a neuron (or any other type of cell), and zebrafish. Tons more, but those are most of the "big" ones!

    Jackie

    ReplyDelete
  74. Actually, zebrafish will be making an appearance on the blog sometime soon (after Drosophila).

    ReplyDelete
  75. I'd quite like the mouse one, as one of my friends works with lab mice.

    ReplyDelete
  76. My niece & I love the little mouse cookie cutter! I've managed to work in the medical research field without having to treat the sweet little mice...and I've even rescued a couple (shhhhh!). LOVE your science cookies!!

    ReplyDelete
  77. I don't know which to pick, but I love them both. My husband just finished his PhD in genetics at Caltech, and though he worked with C. elegans, he had to walk by all those Drosophila vials on the way to his lab every day. And I used to mate the mice (then ether the pregnant ones, slice them open, and analyze their pups) during undergrad, so it really is a toss-up. I'd be happy with either. Ether. ha!

    ReplyDelete
  78. Wow! These are amazing :] Lab mouse please.

    ReplyDelete
  79. Ooo!

This is exciting. I've been checking out your work since you started posting geeky cookies--I love them!

If I end up lucky enough to win, I'd love the Drosophila cutter.

    ReplyDelete
  80. Mousey, mousey, mousey! I sent around your pages as inspiration for our annual cookie-decorating party, and I had some fabulous science-related cookies as a result (the cell was my absolute favorite). We mourned the lack of mouse cookies, though. This would correct that.

    ReplyDelete
  81. I would love to have the mouse cutter as my coworkers would love them. I'd have to add candy ear tags to each mouse, for extra awesomeness.

    ReplyDelete
  82. I love your cookies, they are absolutely amazing. If I'm lucky enough to be picked, a little lab mouse would be totally rad!! Keep up the awesome work!

    ReplyDelete
  83. I love your blog! And would be overjoyed to win the Mus musculus cookie cutter.
    Happy holidays!

    ReplyDelete
  84. Oh my gosh, that's an exciting prosepect. Cookie cutters in the post. It would be likle getting mail order from the Broadway Panhandler!

    Finger's crossed.

    ReplyDelete
  85. Drosophila!! My twin sister studies these little guys and is always sending me emails about her triumphs of changing their eye color or curling their wings using mad scientist techniques. I'd love to put her to work making delicious fly cookies to out-geek the rest of the family.

    ReplyDelete
  86. I loved the mice! especially the dead one with the X for an eye!
And I also really really liked the 'atom' cookies and periodic table and the lab coated gingerbread people!
Do you know a source for chemistry cookie cutters? I have a flower to use for atoms, but not sure where to get an erlenmeyer or some test tubes or a roundbottom flask. (I am a chemist)

    ReplyDelete
  87. That dead mouse is hilariously geeky .. nearly wet myself! I want to be geek chic with a mouse cutter! Would make my life to own one!
I also love the petri dish cookies, Im a microbiologist and freaking love things like that! I made an old lab buddy a salmonella cake - had flagella and all! AMAZING!

    ReplyDelete
  88. I'm a geneticist who works around the corner from a Drosophila lab. Every time a new undergraduate comes in the lab, we get a flurry of escaped flies congregating around our lunch room. I'd love to make some Drosophila cookies for them!

    ReplyDelete
  89. My friend posted a picture of one of your science themed cookies (the petri dishes) on my facebook wall and I came onto you website. I went through all of it! I love all of your ideas they are so creative! I'm currently a pharm/tox student at a science university and my number one hobby is baking. I love how you combined my two passions into yummy treats! My faculty for my major is the best and I would LOVE to bake them cookies related to what we study! So if I am chosen I would love the have the mouse cookie cutter!! (P.S. the mouse cookies looks MUCH friendlier than the ones I had to handle in the lab)

    ReplyDelete
  90. I only just discovered your blog last week and have been enjoying every post and can't wait to try some of your recipes! I would love a shot at winning the mouse cookie cutter since I work with mice in a lab everyday :-)

    ReplyDelete
  91. LOVE LOVE LOVE YOUR BLOG!! Your science cookies are AMAZING and I am so glad to know of another person in this world (and of course all these other people who commmented!) who makes geeky science cookies too! I don't really need a free cookie cutter but I felt I had to tell you that all the chemists and biologists here at our university think your cookies are WOW.

Your periodic table cookies are so much prettier than the ones we did recently but I felt certain you would want to see ours anyway. I am still working on the webpage but here are the cookie pictures:
    http://www2.sewanee.edu/chemistry/SAACScoffeehouse

Good luck with all of your cooking and baking and have a merry holiday season!

    ReplyDelete
  92. oooh, I would love love love to bake some cute little mice for my dad (a biochemist).

And also your blog is awesome! Keep up the great work. =)

    ReplyDelete
  93. These are fantastic!

These would be perfect for all my friends...most of them are scientists and every year for xmas I bake them "not-so-normal gingerbread men"...perhaps if I'm lucky enough to win a mouse cookie cutter they'll get a chance actually eat a B10.BR mouse...made of gingerbread of course!

    ReplyDelete
  94. I have the Krispy Kreme donut mitosis picture in my office at work and it so sad how few people get the reference. I'm all science geeky and the fruit fly cutter just cracks me up.

    ReplyDelete
  95. As someone who has seemingly spent a lifetime running mouse studies in an attempt to actually finish my Ph.D... I think the mouse would certainly be appropriate!

    ReplyDelete
  96. I'd love a chance for the Drosophila cookie cutter. My husband and I met at a biology lab where we set up the fruit fly labs for the intro to bio. students.

    ReplyDelete
  97. I like the Drosophila cooke cutter. That is too cute and nerdy!

    whatinabox (at) gmail (dot) com

    ReplyDelete
  98. Oh, I would LOVE to make some mouse cookies!

Thanks for sharing all of your awesome cookies here - we're planning a Christmas gift of a periodic table o' cookies for my father in law, a former chemist!

    ReplyDelete
  99. Mousie mousie mousie! I've been out of the lab for a year now (oh, administration!), but the only thing I really miss is the hours spent in the mouse room (not the constant whiff of eau de mouse though).

    ReplyDelete
  100. I love the mouse. I can't stop mentally tessellating it in my mind to try to come up with the most efficient way to cut out cookies with the least amount of unused dough.

    ReplyDelete
  101. Ooooh! They're so cute! I'd love to have one... I'd prefer the Drosophila as I really love bees, and that's just the use I'd put it to! I have a suspicion I'd get a lot of practice with your icing if I had that cutter! The mouse would be fabulous too, my partner and I really enjoyed your lab mouse cookies. That's just the way my genetics professor used to draw them, upside-down with x's and everything!

    ReplyDelete
  102. Love the mouse cookie cutter. My mom hates mice, so it would be funnt to make her some rodent cookies for her birthday (both the live and dead variety)!

    ReplyDelete
  103. The mice are so cute! My friends and I were inspired by your biology cookies (esp. petri dishes and electrophoresis) and decided to make subject-themed cookies for all of our teachers yesterday. We gave them out today and they were a success! It might even become a yearly tradition for us :)

    ReplyDelete
  104. I came across your blog through photograzing and have fallen in love with it. I am in grad school for biological anthropology so your science-themed deserts rock my world! I'd love to have the mouse cookie cutter. My roommate is a grad student in cell biology and working with mice spleens so we thought adding some cut marks might be science appropriate. Happy Holidays!

    ReplyDelete
  105. love the blog! and i love the mouse cookie cutter!

it's not published yet, but i recently discovered the mutated gene of a well know disorder; i plan on making the electorphoresis cookies look more like sequencing gels and will have WT and my mutated gene sequence, well, just the 3 bases around it anyway . . .

    ReplyDelete
  106. These are awesome! Both my husband and I are science majors and always trying to find ways to "push" our nerdy ways onto our children. What better than with Drosophila cookies.

    ReplyDelete
  107. The mouse is cute but if I'm the lucky winner I would love the drosophila cutter. It is quite adorable. (:

    Mahalo.

    ReplyDelete
  108. Hello from one biological anthropology graduate to another (funny how unusual I used to think my degree was, of course that was back in 1994). Thanks for the opportunity to win a cookie cutter! The Drosophila shape actually reminds me of something with a more sinister association: the death's head moth from Silence of the Lambs, Acherontia sp. So while fruit fly cookies are a logical addition to your wonderful laboratory of science-themed cookies, I think a nice creepy moth could double as a Halloween cookie as well...and would also be lovely with a nice chianti. Could you put your talented hand to the task of horror-themed cookies as well? I'll give it a whirl...we only have 10 months to perfect them! --Kris

    ReplyDelete
  109. These are so cute! Nerdy cookies are the best. Since I've worked in a lab with mice (I soon learned it was a bad idea to name them), I think I would choose the mouse one. The red eyes are a nice touch. Thanks for the opportunity!

    ReplyDelete
  110. I'd love the mouse cookie cutter - I have a few hanging around my house and I'd love to give them a few to munch on as a Christmas treat!!

    ReplyDelete
  111. Oh, mouse mouse mouse- you make my day! Every year I make my Traditional Christmas Shark Cookies, and I would LOVE to add a Traditional Christmas Mouse to the bunch!

  113. Drosophila All the way! one of my friends is doing her thesis on them and i want to make her an awesome surprise!

    ReplyDelete
  114. How freakin cute! I love the mouse cutters, and there is a story in that cookie photo...

    ReplyDelete
  115. Its hard decide between the two, but I think that I would have to go with the mouse. It would be awesome to recreate the results of the Griffith's experiment (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Griffith's_experiment) for my intro bio class, using cookies!

    ReplyDelete
  116. I just found your site today! How wonderful it is! The mouse is definitely cute!

    ReplyDelete
  117. Your cookies are adorable. That mouse cookie cutter is just what a grad student needs for further procrastination :)

    ReplyDelete
  118. Oh! Mouse-cutters! Me, me, me!
Thanks for offering up happy holiday lab cheer!

    ReplyDelete
  119. I'm really glad I found your blog, lots of lovely recipes for inspiration! Would love a mouse cutter to make cookies for my friends in the lab at work!

    ReplyDelete
  120. I want a mouse cutter please. Why because they are cute.I just hope I do not get any rabies.Hmmm who knows maybe in the future I would do some kind of give away.Just started blogging but who knows my forte is games and some other stuff not cooking. But yea I want that mouse to collect :) Is that nerdy enough?

  121. Ahhh the mouse is toooooooo adorable! :)

btw! I was in Taiwan for an internship and showed the petri dish cookies to my labmates. Their reactions were: "Are those really cookies?!" and "Who would wanna eat those?!" (but that guy was just being difficult, he usually is xP)

And then my brother saw your gel cookies and said "I wished my gels looked that good." F'reals, your creations totally put me back in baking mood. :D

    ReplyDelete
  123. Omg me please! Definitely the mouse!

    ReplyDelete
  124. I would love to be considered, but am in the UK :)

(And I'd love the mouse, if I were to be in the running...)

    ReplyDelete
  125. I've seen those mice and they knocked me out. I'm trying to convince a good friend of mine to bake them for me...

    ReplyDelete
  126. Oh my goodness the people in my boyfriends lab would LOVE the mouse cookies!

    ReplyDelete
  127. I'm loving the mice. The fact that you killed one cracks me up. I would have never thought of that. : )

    ReplyDelete
  128. The mouse is fabulous. It would make nice friends with my toadstool cookie cutter that I couldn't not buy.

    ReplyDelete
  129. Mouse cookie cutter please! I need something to make me smile during finals week :)

    ReplyDelete
  130. We work for a science museum! How could we not have a mouse cookie cutter?

    ReplyDelete
  131. Both cookie cutters are cute, and your blog is adorable! I'm so glad it made Blog of Note, otherwise I may never have found it! Congratulations!

    ReplyDelete
  132. I would like to win the mouse. Also, I can't wait to try your eggnog fudge. It looks awesome.

    ReplyDelete
  133. You have a fantastic imagination. I would love either cookie cutter for my collection. I'm going to have to try my hand at yeast cell cookies as well. :)

    ReplyDelete
  134. Just "discovered" your blog and pictures of your treats. Wonderfully geeky. The petri dish cookies are spot on and I might have to copy the idea to serve to my lab mates, citing you of course! I'd love to have the mouse cookie cutter as our lab is beginning to do some mouse work with select agents. Thanks for inspiring science nerds everywhere to take science into the kitchen!

    ReplyDelete
  135. I would love the little mouse cookie cutter! :) It's adorable and combines my love for animals and baking!

    ReplyDelete
  136. I'm a scientist, a biologist to be more specific, and I have a passion for the couisine, it's more than a hobbie for me, it's a way to show to my loved ones how much I love them and I really enjoy it, and I love the confectioner's over all, I really love to have the mice cutter cause I'm a zoologist and I grow rodents for a time, although now I dedicate myself to entomology, the animals, the science and the couisine are my passions

    ReplyDelete
  137. I am an entomology geek so I'd love to have a chance to win the Drosphila cookie cutter! It would also be cool to try to make other types of dipteran cookies. Maybe some hover flies!

    ReplyDelete
  138. i love the science themed cooking entries! i would love a drosophila cookie cutter!

    ReplyDelete
  139. The drosophila would be way cool, though the kids would get a kick out of either. You got mad piping skills!

    ReplyDelete
  140. I would love the lab mouse cookie cutter!
My friends & family would get a kick out that!!
    :)

    ReplyDelete
  141. I would love to bake nerdy cookies, and would love the mouse cookie cutter! I work in a lab that does a lot of expts with mice.

    ReplyDelete
  142. Just found your blog -- I would love to bake fun science cookies for my grandkids!!

    Thanks!

    ReplyDelete
  143. I love decorating cookies, and am also a biologist, and was absolutely blown-away by your great ideas! The gel electrophoresis cookie was awesome.

I would love the mouse cookie cutter, thanks for the opportunity!

  145. Wow!!! Its nice to know that I am not the only totally geeky science nerd out there!!! I think sometimes I forget, as a graduate student I spend a tone of time in lab being anti-social. Your cookie idea are so cute they make me want to drop my pipette and pick up a spatula. I hope that you keep coming up with new ideas there great!!! I love the mouse cookies they are so life (or should i say death)like!!!

    ReplyDelete
  146. This is a great blog, and a great offer!

The lab mice cookies were genius, but after seeing today's Drosophila I think I would have to say they'd be my choice of cookie cutter should I be so lucky as to win the giveaway. Like many others, I worked with D. melanogaster in my biology courses, and have yet to work with mice (not much need to in the study of biological anthropology). Your blog has inspired an already interested-in-baking scientist to continue his pursuits, and for that, I thank you. Keep the posts coming!

  147. Looking at your designs - great! Just one little problem - dragees are illegal in California (yeah, I know - the land of litigation). Thankfully my daughter is in France, and will likely be able to obtain some clandestine dragees for me.
Our holiday potluck is coming up soon (I work in the R&D department of a "large pharma company", and your bacteria & electrophoresis designs will be a big hit). Now to incorporate some bioinformatics themes...

    ReplyDelete
  148. Steve, I think you can still get 'pearl' dragees (the non silver covered kind) in California. I can't imagine why they would ban those, they don't have any metal on them.

    ReplyDelete
  149. I would loooove the Drosophila melanogaster cookie cutter! I just took my Genetics final yesterday (VA Tech), and it would be awesome to make fruit fly cookies after learning about the principles of segregation and independent assortment!

    ReplyDelete
  150. I totally would love the mouse cutter. I do a lot of mouse genetics, and think packs of these cookies would make awesome holiday gifts for my labmates!

    ReplyDelete
  151. Ever watch Pinky and the Brain? I have a desire lab mice that will first take over cookie jars of friends and neighbors, then the world! Thanks. :)

  152. Hi!

I am a fan of your blog, due to the fact that I myself am I biological anthropology major who enjoys experimental baking as I call it. I just love that fact that you're giving us a chance to win these cookies cutters which are adorable. I would love to win the mouse cookie cutter to make my sister, a neuroscientist, cookies for christmas of her favorite subjects!

    Thanks again and Happy Holidays.

    ReplyDelete
  153. I love this blog and this is the first time I have ever seen it! and I don't get persuade like this ever! Even both cookie cutters are nice I would rather choose the mouse because I LOVE rodents unlike ALOT of people. Thank for giving all of us a chance to win these adorable cookie cutters!!
Thank you and Happy Happy Holidays!

    ReplyDelete
  154. My kids say mouse please...we are just starting to bake on the weekends for the holidays and have started a collection - each Friday we go to the bulk barn and get a new cutter..it's kinda fun and we have about 30 now...we could make the mice and some poop-like fudge :)

    ReplyDelete
  155. Oooh, I think the mousies would be great with my collection of cat cutters, please? Then I could make the new apartment smell mice, too :)

(I just emailed my Chem professor the link to the Periodic Table Cookies- if I had time right now I would *so* try for some extra credit!)

  156. You seem like such a dignified and lovely person with fantastic cooking skills! But I can't understand why you would be so excited about a lab mouse cookie cutter.

Lab mice, rats, and many other unfortunate creatures suffer greatly at the hands of humans, all in the name of science. You seem to have a scientific background, which is very cool! Yet there are many ways to practice compassionate science, not harming a single animal. It would be better for everyone if more people knew about the ugliness of animal laboratory testing. We've got to open our hearts!

Please copy and paste this URL and read the short message and watch the brief video:

    www.stopanimaltests.com/animalTesting101.asp

It is SO important to know what is going on in our world. It's unnecessary suffering that we CAN stop. Thanks for taking time to read my comment. I am a sensitive person, I know. But I mean well to you and to all. May all your baking be compassionate...

  157. Valeire,

I'm going to leave your post unmoderated for the time being. However, I do not like people using my blog to push their own personal agenda or use it for shameless self promotion.

This blog is meant to be a light hearted source of diversion for both foodies and scientists, not a forum to debate the methods employed by researchers, many of whom I do consider kind and compassionate people.

    ReplyDelete
  158. Tough call but I'm going with the mouse.

    ReplyDelete
  159. I'd love to have the Drosophila cutter, but in the lab, mine all have small eyes - or are at least the w- mutant :).

    ReplyDelete
  160. pinky and the brain...sign me up for chance at the lab mouse

    ReplyDelete
  161. Drosophila cookie cutter hands down! The mice are cute but fruit flies were my first introduction to real genetics in the lab in grade 11 and they gross me out to this day - hence me wanting to make yummy cookies in their likeness!

    ReplyDelete
  162. i love your science cookies! lab mouse please! =)

    ReplyDelete
  163. Oo! Oo! Oo! Pick me! Pick me! Both cutters are super cute, and I'd love either one :) Thanks for all the giggles I get from your blog, I love it! :)

    ReplyDelete
  164. This blog is awesome!! I'm a scientist and I LOVE to bake so this one will go in my favorites. I would love the mouse cutter (although both are cute!!)

    ReplyDelete
  165. Which one, which one? They are both so cute! But I am leaning toward the Drosophila...

Just stumbled upon your blog...it's pretty darn awesome!

    ReplyDelete
  166. I found your blog through Boing and love it! Both cookie cutters are very cute but if I had to choose I would have to pick the mouse.:)

    ReplyDelete
  167. Was definitely not expecting so much competition! Haha, thought I'd say something cute to get it? The mouse one? I love it. It reminds me of when I used to breed mice with my grandad.

    ReplyDelete
  168. Wow! Those are super cute! If I had to choose . . I'd pick the mouse. I think that my kids and I would have a ton of fun decorating an army of little lab mice. P.S. I love the xed out one!

    ReplyDelete
  169. Finally I have been represented in cookie form! I have never looked so tasty. I would love to be the recipient of a Drosophila cookie cutter so that I can be the one doing the cloning... Also here's a link to my blog:

    ReplyDelete
  170. Oh, it's so hard to choose but I think I'd go for the mouse. You have inspired me to try my hand at some science theme decorating so I'll make sure to send you photos of them when I'm done.

    ReplyDelete
  171. Mouse cookies would be a perfect holiday treat for my dad and his lab! :)

    ReplyDelete
  172. oh sheesh... fruit fly or lab mouse? um... lab mouse! i like how you put an "x" on the eye.

i come from a family of foodies and scientists. together, we have some interesting tales of cooking. this year, i tried to teach food science to my son while decorating easter eggs with veggies and spices. some worked. then my dad had to one-up me the following weekend with better veggies organically grown in his yard. we're constantly tweeking recipies knowing how it all works too.

    ReplyDelete
  173. Lab Mouse, please. These are such interesting ideas. I must try the Petri dish cookies.

    Gail

  174. Oh my, oh my! What could be better that nerdiness and sweets? Nerdiness and sweets shaped like mice! I am so in love with all the yummy goodness on your site!!!

    ReplyDelete
  175. I would love the drosophila cookie cutter! I am a new PhD student at Berkeley and cook when things get too stressful, which of course, is all the time. What makes it even better is that my roommate works on drosophila all day (disecting them, eew gross) and it would be fun to make her some drosophila cookies that would be alot easier to disect!

    ReplyDelete
  176. Keep baking, please. The blog is great. Love that lab mouse.

    ReplyDelete
  177. Wow you have a lot of fans! I'm feeling a little intimidated here, seeing as I only JUST became a follower. If anything, I just want to let you know I really enjoy reading your blog. Not only are you witty and amusing, but the food looks delicious! How do you ever resist eating it all? Hopefully as soon as I graduate, I'll have more time to do the things I WANT to do (like bake scrumptious sweet things), but until then, those little cookie cutters are my dream. Can't you see the mouse following a trail of cookie crumbs, or the drosophila hovering around an incredible flower-shaped cake?

    ReplyDelete
  178. Fantastic science cookies! Nothing warms the heart of a true nerd like gel electrophoresis and lab mouse cookies. I would make good use of the mouse cookie cutter by creating a whole colony of knockout mice.

    ReplyDelete
  179. !!! I'd LOVE the drosophila cookie cutter! My labmates would get a kick out of these! I'm a grad student in a drosophila lab...I'd have so much fun making cookies with the different phenotypes that we see in the lab :)

    ReplyDelete
  180. I'd love to make mouse cookies for my fellow researchers to study mouse embryonic stem cells!

    Thanks,
    Ashley

  181. I'm a postdoc (biological sciences) by day, and baker by night... I'd love to bake up some mice for my labmates!

    ReplyDelete
  182. Hi Ms. Humble! This is such a fun blog! :) I'd love the mouse cookie-cutter, even though I work with worms in my lab! C. elegans cookies next! :) I'm going to try to make the bacterial streak cookies for our holiday party Friday. I love the gel electrophoresis ones, but they might be a leeettle beyond my skill level at present. Thanks so much! :) Margaret

    ReplyDelete
  183. Hello Ms. Humble! The drosophila cookies are so much cuter then the ones flying around me all day at work!

    ReplyDelete
  184. Love the science cookies! I'm an engineer, so I'd need computer cookies! I'd REALLY LOVE to bake up some mice cookies for my husband as he's terrified of mice. Maybe mice in cookie form will help him get over his fears?

    Great blog!

    ReplyDelete
  185. Mice would be oh so nice! I stumbled on your blog, while sick surfing. It is really inspirational! Can't wait to follow your blog.

  187. I'd like to date a scientist and I think this is just the way to win his heart!
(in the meantime, I'm going to make your angel food chai cupcakes). Love your blog, thanks.

    ReplyDelete
  190. I love your science cookies! I am a high school biology teacher, and I am inspired to bake these for my students. My AP biology students enjoyed sexing the real flies in lab, but the cookies might have them beat. Thanks for the ideas!

    ReplyDelete
  191. Hello, Ms. Humble. I'm certain that you and your scientific friends ARE nice people! I am sorry if my previous message came across accusingly. I truly didn't mean you any harm. And I am not a member of any of the groups whose links I mentioned. My heart just hurt to see a light-hearted cookie cutter connected to such a sad topic as laboratory animal testing. I meant no trouble to you. I sincerely thank you for taking time for me... Valerie

Those labcoats are hard to resist, I know.

Even better, that rumpled physicist/engineer look (one that is somewhere between a flood-victim and a professor) Wooo.
